Michigan Coalitions

As a party which seeks to build the mass movements that can truly lead to a socialist transformation, it is essential that we work as socialists in broad movement-building coalitions in addition to exclusively socialist organizations. The SPMI has therefore compiled a list of left-wing labor, anti-war, and civil rights coalitions in Michigan which we encourage all SPMI members to get involved in to whatever extent you can. As socialists working within these coalitions, we can not only help to build important movements, but also help to radicalize these coalitions by raising socialist ideas within them and sometimes recruit new members to the Socialist Party.

As the Socialist Party’s ‘Who We Are’ Statement states, “When someone joins the Socialist Party, they're also joining for reinforcing their commitment to other movements for social justice. Socialists don't simply function within their own party, in isolation from the outside world. On the contrary, most Socialists are deeply involved in other, larger movements and it is from those movements that many new Socialist Party members are recruited.”

If there are any coalitions in Michigan not included on this list which you think should be added, please contact the SPMI at: spmi@spmichigan.org or (269) 598-0534
